The joint programme titled 'Start-up phase for integrated and cross-border programming in Central Sahel' aims to support the establishment of strategic UN Joint Programmes in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, facilitating transformative impacts and enhancing cooperation to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The joint programme focuses on initiating integrated and cross-border programming in Central Sahel, specifically in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. It facilitates the development of transformative UN Joint Programmes that enhance collaboration with governments and local partners, aiming to address key SDG acceleration areas such as food systems, energy transition, and education. By the end of the programme, it is expected to design 5 to 8 joint programmes, reaching approximately 3 million beneficiaries, and fostering partnerships that enhance climate resilience and advance Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Expected key results
- Design and rollout of 1-3 national joint programmes specific to each country, but inter-connected, leveraging UN entity expertise in specific policy themes
- Design and rollout of 1-3 cross-border joint programme, including one that may concern the three countries together on food systems, aligned with shared needs and priorities in the Central Sahel, with due respect paid to implications for neighboring Coastal Countries.
- Setup of country-level funding mechanisms and comprehensive resource mobilization strategies that can attract sustainable financing and enable strategic engagement of development partners for the designed joint programmes and other SDG initiatives.
