The joint programme titled 'Resilient Food Systems: Enhanced Value Chain and Post Harvest Management' aims to focus on resilient and sustainable technologies for post-harvest handling and management in the grains value chain, fostering food and nutrition security while improving marketability and livelihoods in Rwanda.
The program focuses on enhancing resilient food systems in Rwanda through improved post-harvest management and value chain technologies, aiming to foster food security and better livelihoods. It actively engages smallholder farmers, particularly women and youth, by providing access to affordable post-harvest handling solutions, increasing their knowledge of nutritious food practices, and strengthening market linkages. The initiative reaches 500 smallholder farmers across five cooperatives, significantly improving their income and resilience against climate impacts. Overall, it contributes to advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to poverty alleviation, food security, and sustainable agricultural practices.
Expected key results
The JP in Rwanda aims to enhance income, food and nutrition security, and resilience for smallholder farmers and youth by introducing cost-effective, sustainable and resilient post-harvest technologies, reducing food losses, improving food quality and marketability in the grains value chain, empowering farmers, and ensuring nutritious food availability, enhancing food security and income.
