Brief Description

The "Promoting Solar Self-Consumption" programme in Djibouti fosters sustainable energy practices by addressing regulatory barriers and enhancing local capacities for solar adoption.

The program promotes solar self-consumption in Djibouti to enhance energy access and sustainability. It identifies regulatory barriers and develops recommendations while establishing standards and training programs. The initiative directly benefits 350,000 people by providing reliable, affordable solar energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and fostering economic growth. Partnerships with local governments and financial institutions strengthen the program's impact, contributing to climate resilience and advancing Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 7 and SDG 13.

Expected key results

  • Improving the quality of life for households in Djibouti by offering reliable  and affordable electricity through solar energy.
  • Elimination of regulatory barriers through the introduction of standards,  control mechanisms, and certification processes to promote the adoption of  solar self-consumption.
  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating the impact of climate  change in Djibouti.
  • Enhancing local capacity, market conditions and expertise in solar energy  within Djibouti
  • Developing a financial mechanism design to mobilize private investment  toward solar energy
