Early Childhood and Sustainable Development: Towards a Comprehensive Care System


The programme brief description

The aim of the early childhood and sustainable development Joint Programme supports the Argentine Government in the implementation of the National Early Childhood Strategy (ENPI in Spanish), focused on strengthening childcare services at national and subnational levels. It is reducing the inequality gaps among the 5.2 million children (0 - 6 years old), of which 2.7 million are poor, by increasing the investment for the National Early Childhood Strategy (ENPI) from the current 0.26% and identifying consolidated investment gaps at national and provincial levels.

Approach

The approach focuses on three closely interconnected aspects:

  • Families’ access to care services and the enhancement of the service quality provided;
  • Improving employment conditions of workers in early childhood care;
  • Contributions to women’s financial independence in relation to meeting care needs and to labour market participation.

Target groups

Women, children, girls, persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples, rural workers, migrants.
