Brief Description

The joint programme titled 'Accelerating the eradication of extreme poverty in Cabo Verde through economic inclusion' aims to improve access to employment and business opportunities for extremely poor households, particularly focusing on women heads of households and youth NEET, while integrating social protection measures with economic inclusion initiatives.

The joint programme focuses on eradicating extreme poverty in Cabo Verde through economic inclusion, targeting vulnerable groups such as women and youth. It integrates social protection measures with economic opportunities, enhancing skills for decent work and supporting micro-businesses in the informal sector. Significant achievements include the expansion of cash transfer schemes and the implementation of the national strategy for poverty eradication, which has already reduced extreme poverty levels. Partnerships with governments, donors, and civil society organizations strengthen these efforts, reaching thousands of individuals and families. The overall impact enhances climate resilience and advances Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in promoting social inclusion and economic stability.

Expected key results

The key result that the project aims to achieve is that individuals from households living in extreme poverty, will: (1) enhance their sills to access decent work opportunities, especially women and youth NEET (not in education, employment or training); (2) those living in rural areas will benefit from support to enhance the productivity of their micro-business and self-employment activities; (3) microbusinesses operating in the informal sector will benefit from support to transition to the formal sector.
