Brief Description

The joint programme titled 'Accelerating Employment Creation and Social Protection Through Integrated Agriculture Value Chain Development' aims to enhance job creation and social protection for vulnerable groups in Malawi by reviewing and implementing inclusive public policies and guidelines related to agriculture, skills development, and social protection by 2026.

The joint programme focuses on enhancing job creation and social protection through integrated agriculture value chain development in Malawi. It actively reviews and implements gender-responsive public policies, benefiting approximately 20,400 direct beneficiaries, including youth, women, and marginalized groups, while indirectly reaching around 12 million individuals, including 3.1 million smallholder families. The programme strengthens local institutions and promotes sustainable financing partnerships, contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 2, 5, and 8, ultimately enhancing climate resilience and fostering inclusive economic growth.

Expected key results

1) Policies and guidelines on social protection, decent jobs, skills development and agriculture commercialization reviewed, costed, gender responsive and implemented in an integrated and inclusive manner to enhance job creation opportunities.

2) Labor market, TEVET systems capacitated to design skills development programmes that match the needs of the labour market.

3) Social protection system at national and sub-national level improved and equipped to implement integrated policy packages to enhance coverage

4) Capacity of MDAs, private sector, employers’ organizations, workers organisations, CSO, Women led, and Youth led movements strengthened to collectively promote job creation and social protection extension.
