In September 2024, all 193 UN Member States signed the Pact for the Future. Together, they committed to “encourage the inclusion of youth, including youth delegates, in national delegations to the United Nations” [Action 37(b)].
Now, in the lead-up to the ECOSOC Youth Forum 2025, we—youth from over 40 countries—have come together to ensure that those words are not just promises but real commitments, acted upon.
In less than five days, we launched a global working group. Our members come from countries on the verge of a “yes,” countries where Youth Delegate programs once existed but were discontinued, and countries where the concept is still unknown. Some are current youth delegates working to support others. More youth are joining every day. We are growing fast.
And our collective Call to Action is clear: every Member State should appoint a UN Youth Delegate.
This is not just about having a seat at the table. It’s about trust. About recognition. About symbolism backed by substance.
Too often, youth are invited on stage but not into the conversation. We are asking Member States to do more than include us in name. We want meaningful participation, where youth perspectives are trusted, valued, and integrated into national and global decision-making.
We want to show what the youth can contribute. We want to bring energy, urgency, imagination, and openness, the kind that builds bridges, sparks new thinking, and brings solutions that others might overlook.
We want to work with governments, not against them. We want to be allies in the work of diplomacy, in the effort to protect dignity and peace, and in the ongoing struggle to secure a future that works for all. We are not waiting to be handed power. We are asking to be trusted with responsibility.
We ask governments to inspire us with your leadership and wisdom. Empower us with access and trust. Protect us with an inclusive, forward-looking policy.
In return, we will help shape a future that treats people and the planet with care and respect. We will contribute what we do best — fresh perspective, collaborative thinking, and a refusal to believe that things must stay broken just because they’ve always been that way.
We are not just the next generation. We are here now. We are ready to help design new global relationships. And this will shine at the ECOSOC Youth Forum.
