Studying the forest-wood, local flour and fish sectors in Cameroon

UNDP in collaboration with MINEPAT is organizing a "Discussion workshop on the results of studies and mapping of business opportunities in the Forest-wood, local flour and fish sectors" as part of the Joint SDG Fund Project from August 2 to 5, 2022 in Douala.

One of the major orientations of the National Development Strategy 2020-2030 (SND30) is the implementation of the import substitution policy, the objective of which is to reduce Cameroon's economic dependence, including the strengthening of food sovereignty. In this perspective, the Government has undertaken a set of initiatives to promote the priority sectors of the SND30 and strengthen the involvement of actors and identify measures to enable Cameroon to achieve the targeted objectives.

In view of the importance of these sectors for the national consumption, production and socio-economic development of Cameroon, and, in a context of instability of the supply at a lower cost of food goods with an international environment marked by the negative impacts of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict on the prices of food products, it is essential to capitalize on the results of these studies. Indeed, the key actors having a perfect knowledge of these sectors and who are the main decision-makers at the level of each link of the value chain (producers, distributors, bankers, consumers, support administrations) must refine the proposals solutions identified with a view to guaranteeing the effective competitiveness of the sectors, proposing major, priority, concrete measures, and realistic in the short and medium term, in terms of tax and customs support, strengthening of technical capacities and productivity, search for better yields, access to land, access to financial services, structuring of actors in the sector.
