Colombia launches the Integrated National Financing Framework (INFF) for the Sustainable Development Goals

Bogotá, Colombia, March 19, 2021, with the implementation of this program, the National Government and the United Nations come together to contribute to the economic recovery of the country by strengthening the financing of the agenda for sustainable development.

In order to accelerate the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and their 169 targets, since June 2020 in Colombia started the joint program INFF - Route for an Integrated National Framework for the Financing of the SDGs ( Joint Program Roadmap for an Integrated National Financing Framework in Colombia ).

The strategy is led by the Government of Colombia at the head of the Ministry of Finance and the National Planning Department –DNP–, with support from UNDP Colombia, UN-Women, and UNICEF. Additionally, the Presidential Agency for International Cooperation –APC–, the World Bank and the European Union participate.

What is the INFF Program?

The Integrated National Financing Framework -INFF- is consolidated as a key strategy to face the impacts of Covid-19 on the commitments to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals at the country level. In this way, it provides a framework for financing national priorities for sustainable development, social and economic recovery.

INFF contributes to detail  how  the SDGs and the respective goals prioritized by the Government at the head of the SDG Commission (led by DNP) will be financed and implemented , based on a full range of financing sources, which can be public, private, national. and international.

With the strategy, during 2021 the capacities of the National Government will be strengthened to accelerate the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, the identification of financing gaps , and the consolidation of a national financing strategy for the fulfillment of the SDGs.

In addition to the financial aspect that is transversal to all the SDGs, the INFF Program will have budget analysis components to close gaps in gender and in the protection of children and adolescents in Colombia.

Colombia facing the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and improve people's lives and prospects, leaving no one behind, approved by all Member States of the United Nations in 2015.

The 2020s are established as the Decade of Action, a key period to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs , mobilize financing and improve implementation at the national level through governments, companies and citizens.

  • In Colombia, 98.2% of the goals established in the National Development Plan 2018-2022 (Pact for Colombia, Pact for Equity) are aligned with the agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • In 2020 , Colombia ranked 67th out of 166 countries in the global performance index for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs.
  • In the country, one of the main challenges is to integrate and achieve the mobilization of resources from governmental and non-governmental actors to accelerate the fulfillment of the SDG goals, at the national and territorial levels.
